MJ

My name is Merseis Marinelli, or MJ, and I am an Island TAT artist! I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. Although I am Filipina, growing up my sister introduced me to the Polynesian dance styles hula and ori Tahiti - and that alone changed my life path. It led me from being just a tattoo artist to someone who truly appreciates Polynesian culture.

Art has always been present in my life. Growing up in a fine arts school further pushed my artistic creativity, and I've grown to love the complexity of art and the deeper meaning behind it.

Island TAT's presence in my life began when my father met Joshawa, and my dad became one of his clients. Watching my father constantly get tattooed by Josh inspired me to pursue what I love and reach out to him - and that's where it all began.

What motivates me most about this job is being able to create art for others, because it's something I truly love to do. My greatest work comes when there is a purpose behind it.
What I love most about working at Island TAT is the sense of community we have. I love being able to talk to everyone as if I've known them for years. It's such a welcoming place to be, and I thank God every day for answering my prayers and guiding me in the right direction.

Outside of the shop, I love lifting weights, swimming, hanging out with my boyfriend, painting, spending time with my cats, and being with my crazy family.
