A fresh tattoo is the beginning, not the final test. Every piece on this page was photographed after healing, so you can judge the work the way you will actually wear it.
Healed photographs help clients evaluate how linework, spacing, saturation and composition settle over time. Individual healing varies.
Where we know how long a piece has been settled, it is labelled. Where we don't, it simply reads Healed — we don't estimate ages.
Why Healed Work Matters
Line spacing
Skin settles and lines spread slightly over the first year. Negative space that looked generous on day one is what keeps a healed piece readable years later.
Saturation
Black holds differently on every body. Healed photographs show how evenly the packed areas settled, not how they looked while still fresh and swollen.
Readability
A Polynesian composition is a language. Healed work shows whether each motif band still reads cleanly at conversational distance once the contrast has softened.
Aging
Sun, movement, and time all act on a tattoo. Seeing pieces at one year, five years, and beyond is the only honest way to judge how a design ages.
Design longevity
Structure that follows the body's flow keeps its shape as the body changes. Longevity is a design decision made before the first line is drawn.

Fresh vs. Healed
A fresh photograph is taken minutes after the needle stops. The skin is still raised and wet, contrast is at its sharpest, and fine detail looks tighter than it will once the surface settles. A healed photograph is taken after that settling — the same composition, without the shine.
Both are useful. Fresh work shows the intended design; healed work shows how it actually wears. Every image in the gallery below is labelled so you always know which one you are looking at.
What to look at
- Saturation — whether the packed black areas settled evenly across the piece.
- Line stability — whether the lines still hold their weight and edge rather than blurring together.
- Spacing — whether the negative space between motif bands still separates them clearly.
- Body flow — whether the composition still follows the muscle and joint lines when the body moves.
Healing is individual. Skin type, placement, sun exposure, daily activity and aftercare all differ from person to person, so no two pieces settle in exactly the same way and nothing shown here predicts a particular result. These are photographs of real finished work, not a promise about yours.
