The IslandTAT Standard of Work
Every tattoo that leaves our studio is held to the same core standard: clean execution, natural body flow, cultural responsibility, and meaningful composition. This standard is maintained regardless of which artist executes the work — because the standard belongs to the studio, not just an individual.
Clean lines and precise execution are the baseline. Polynesian tattoo patterns demand geometric precision — rows of shark teeth must align perfectly, pattern density must remain consistent, and transitions between motif zones must be seamless. Sloppy line work in Polynesian tattooing is immediately visible and irreversible.
Body-flow composition means the design follows your natural musculature, bone structure, and body contours. A tattoo that looks good when you're standing still but distorts when you move is a failed composition. Our freehand approach ensures the design is calibrated to your anatomy in real time.
Cultural respect is embedded in everything we do. We use Polynesian-inspired language where appropriate, we don't claim traditional hand-tapped tatau services, and we approach every cultural tradition with the reverence it deserves. Choosing the Right Artist for Your Body Area
Different body areas present unique compositional challenges. A full sleeve requires 360-degree design thinking — the tattoo must read well from every angle as the arm rotates. Chest pieces demand bilateral awareness and must account for pectoral musculature. Leg compositions follow different flow patterns than arm work due to the taper of the calf and the mass of the thigh.
